Booneville Sentinel October 29, 2008. Booneville, KY Lucy Sizemore Cook, 88, of the Owsley County Health Care Center, passed away October 22, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Manchester, KY, after a long illness. She was born in Owsley County, KY, on June 2, 1920, the daughter of the late Morton and Hazel Hacker Sizemore and was the widow of Clifton Cook. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Cook is survived by two daughters, Linda Barrett and Carol Campbell, both of Hamilton, OH; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two brothers, Lawrence (& Daisy) Sizemore and Jimmy (& Josephine) Sizemore, of Booneville, KY; and a sister, Shelby Jean Baker of Norwood, OH. Visitation was held from 6:00 9:00 p.m., Friday evening, October 24, 2008 at the Searcy and Strong Funeral Home. Funeral services held at 11:00 a.m., October 25, 2008 at the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Lacefield officiating. Burial in the Shepherd Memorial Cemetery with Searcy and Strong Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. [Obituary posted on the OCHS website.]

Still living when brother, William died on May 6, 2008.

It is my belief that this John Wilson was actually named "Jonathan" and used "Jon or John" as a nickname.
These are my thoughts about the father of John Ira Wilson: The John Wilson who married Mary Ellen Thomas was in Henry County, Iowa by 1835 (they were on the 1840 Henry County census) and the John Wilson living next door to Marchant, believed to be Betsey's spouse, was living there in 1840.
I recently realized that Jonathan Wilson and Sarah "Sally" Cobb's second son was unnamed AND there is no JONATHAN Wilson in the list of their children, which is very uncommon. I am now inclined to believe that their second son is the "Jon" who was Betsey's spouse and the reason his name was not known is because he went from his parents' household to Betsey's household and then by 1850, he was deceased. (Betsey is listed as a widow on the 1850 census. Whether or not she actually married Jon, I do not know.)
The DNA testing of a descendant, of this line of Wilsons, David Thomas, pointed to the Jonathan Wilson (m. Sarah Sally Cobb) family, but of course cannot differentiate between brothers. Although this means that there were two sons who used the name "John" in the same family, it does not rule it out. "KY John" Wilson (who m. Mary Ellen Thomas) had two sons, Jonathan and John. Both went by the name "John" at times. So it is my conclusion that both "KY John" and Betsey's spouse "Jon" are the sons of Jonathan Wilson and Sarah "Sally Cobb.

William Thomas, grt grt g/son of John Ira Wilson, said George Thomas, grt g/son of John thru son, Jackson, called this person "Thed" & said, "he was the Granddaddy of us all', but this was never verified and some feel that it is merely folklore.

Elizabeth is listed as a "Widow" on 1850 Owsley Census, but uses the Thomas name.
