INDEX
On August 29, 1863, Isaac enrolled as a Private in Company E of the 47th KY Volunteer Infantry to serve one year during the Civil War. He was mustered in Oct. 5, 1863 near Irvine, KY. He was present for duty on the muster rolls of Company E to Dec. 31, 1863, and present Jan and Feb 1864. He came down with Typhoid Fever early in 1864 and was given a pass to return home for medical treatment Mar. 24, 1864 and remained there until May 15, 1864. He was mustered out with the company Dec. 26, 1864. When he left the service, he lived in Owsley County, near Booneville until his death in 1899. In April of 1899, Dr. A. M. Glass stated that Isaac was left partially paralyzed from two attacks [strokes?] and could not travel. -Ref. Civil War Pension Records
From the Berea Citizen: 1899
Died on August 21, Isaac Abshear age, 73, the father of F.M. Abshear of the firm of Minter and Abshear in South Booneville. Funeral services of Isaac Abshear last Saturday at the M.E. Church conducted by Revs S.F. Kelly and S.K. Ramey and the remains of the deceased was entered in the South Booneville Cemetery.
Although Isaac was officially dropped from the pension roll on Nov. 28, 1899, the Pensioner Dropped card has his last payment date as August 4, 1899. His obituary in the Berea Citizen says he died on August 21.
Cemetery is located 1 1/4 miles out on Route 11, south of Booneville on the right side.
Marriage ceremony performed by Abraham Crabtree. Record of marriage registered at the Clerk's Office in Jonesville, Lee County, VA. -Ref. CW pension record.

RECORD REPUBLICAN', p.8, Tues 30 Jun 1936 James M. Thomas ~James M. Thomas aged 76 years, died Sunday afternoon at 2:15 o'clock at his home on Rawling street. Mr. Thomas had been in poor health for some time. He is survived by two sons and two daughters, Frank and John Thomas of this city, Mrs. Bertha Anders and Mrs. Okla Snyder, both resding here. The body was taken to the Klever Funeral Home and prepared for burial and services will be held at the Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock followed by burial in the Washington cemetery. The body will remain at the Funeral Home until the hour of the service and friends may call at any time. 'RECORD REPUBLICAN', p.8, Tues 3 Jul 1936 James M. Thomas ~ Rev. J. A. Goddard, pastor of the Church of Christ conducted funeral services for James M. Thomas at the Klever Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon. The minister read the memoir and the two hymns "Going Down the Valley" and "Abide With Me". He also delivered a comforting message. Pall bearers were James Bush, Charles Willimson, George Cornell, Joe White, Pearl Ellenburg and John White. Interment was made in the Washington cemetery.
